Sisal's Underwater Wreck: A Thriving Artificial Reef
Twenty-five minutes by boat from Sisal pier, a sunken fishing vessel has become one of the richest dive sites on Yucatan's north coast. Resting at 14–19 meters on a sandy bottom, the wreck's structure is still intact and now coated in sponges, tunicates, and small coral colonies that attract hundreds of fish species.
What You'll See Wreck Diving in Sisal
The wreck hosts permanent residents including pufferfish, moray eels, snapper schools, and spectacular silverside baitfish clouds that swirl around divers like living silver tornadoes. Nurse sharks frequently rest on the sandy bottom beside the hull. The site is usually done as a second dive paired with a reef dive for maximum variety.
